One was registered nurse and writer Alexandra “Ally” Brueger. Another was Michigan caterer and blogger Karina Vetrano. And the third was Google employee Vanessa Marcotte. All were killed within a span of nine days. None of the cases have yet been solved.

Meanwhile, out in California, a new jogging case is gripping the nation. Thankfully, it didn't end in murder.

The frightening abduction of Sherri Papani.

34-year-old Sherri Papani is alive and safe, but she is not well. The California mom who went missing while jogging weeks ago was found 140 miles from home. She had her hands chained, her long, blond hair chopped off, and was covered in bruises and burns. She had also been branded.

Details of Papani’s abduction are still unknown by the public. Her husband, however, has given his account to “Good Morning America.” In it, Keith Papani stated:

“The officers warned me to brace myself. My first sight was my wife in a hospital bed, her face covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of repeated beatings, the bridge of her nose broken…. Her now-emaciated body of 87 pounds was covered in multicolored bruises, severe burns, red rashes and chain markings.”

Papani went on to say that the mother of their two young children was kidnapped by two Hispanic females in a dark SUV. He added that she had been thrown from the vehicle before being found by a motorist on Interstate 5 in Sacramento.

Sherri’s iPhone and earbuds were found on the trail that she regularly jogged on. Authorities believe they may have been placed there in the woods in order to throw searchers off the kidnappers’ trail.
